Project 2: The Family Logo

The brainstorming process for The Griffin Crew logo began with identifying the most suitable themes and imagery to represent the landscaping business. Since landscaping inherently conveys growth, nature, and professionalism, the logo needed to balance these values while also standing out on business cards, trucks, uniforms, and signage. The first key decision was the color scheme. The choice of green and gold was intentional: green symbolizes life, renewal, and the natural environment, while gold conveys prestige, reliability, and high-quality service. Together, they create a professional yet approachable aesthetic that speaks directly to customers in search of dependable landscaping services.

The business name, The Griffin Crew, opened up a world of creative opportunities. A griffin, the mythological creature with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle, is a symbol of strength, guardianship, and loyalty. Incorporating this powerful symbol allowed the branding to transcend typical landscaping imagery like trees, grass, or tools. Instead, the griffin connects the business name to its identity while suggesting durability, trustworthiness, and a touch of uniqueness.

Several possible logo directions were explored. These included a fusion of griffin and nature (for example, wings stylized as leaves or grass blades), a shield or emblem style crest for a formal look, and an abstract or modern silhouette that focused on simplicity. Another idea considered was incorporating landscaping tools with the griffin to make the connection explicit, but the cleaner and bolder direction of a griffin silhouette proved more fitting.

Ultimately, the idea that resonated strongest was a silhouette of a griffin rendered in green and gold. The silhouette ensures recognizability and scalability — it looks sharp in large prints on vehicles and signage but also retains clarity when scaled down for cards or embroidery on uniforms. Different possible forms of the silhouette were suggested, such as a full-body side profile, a griffin head crest, or a circular emblem with text surrounding the creature. The versatility of the silhouette approach means that the brand can adopt different versions for different uses while maintaining consistency.

The process concluded with the creation of a griffin silhouette graphic that could be imported into Adobe Illustrator for outlining and further customization. This gave the freedom to experiment with gold outlines, green fills, and other textural or stylistic touches while staying faithful to the agreed-upon foundation: a bold, professional griffin silhouette in green and gold. This collaborative approach ensured that the logo would not only align with the business name but also communicate strength, quality, and connection to nature in a polished, memorable way.

Project 3: The business cards

The finalized business cards for The Griffin Crew reflect the very design principles explored during the logo brainstorming. Both the front and back of the cards incorporate the chosen green and gold color scheme, ensuring consistency with the professional yet natural aesthetic intended for the logo. The green background strongly grounds the brand in its landscaping identity, while the gold typography provides a striking contrast that signals quality and sophistication.

On the front of the card, the griffin silhouette — the key visual identity agreed upon in the logo discussions — is prominently placed, reinforcing the branding. This ties directly to the decision to use a griffin silhouette as the central mark of the company, ensuring instant recognition. The text layout emphasizes the company’s name, location, contact details, and professional credentials (“Licensed and Insured”), presenting the practical information in a clean, straightforward manner.

The back of the card continues the branding consistency by using the same griffin silhouette as the visual anchor. It highlights the company’s services — painting, lawncare, and general maintenance — while also reinforcing credibility through a mention of the owners and their 18 years of business experience. This not only adds trustworthiness but also personalizes the business, connecting the strong griffin symbolism with the real people behind the service.

Overall, the business cards are a natural extension of the logo development process. They demonstrate how the griffin silhouette, paired with green and gold, can be applied cohesively across branding materials. The cards serve as a practical proof of concept, showing how the logo choices translate from theory into professional, client-facing design. In this way, the cards embody the balance of symbolism, professionalism, and clarity that the logo discussions aimed to achieve.
