Today, I decided to do an exercise called 10 ideas in 10 minutes, which I found on innovationlab.net. This exercise is designed to speed up your creative thinking. In this exercise, I have 10 minutes to come up with 10 potential solutions to problem. The problem I will be solving comes from a superhero themed DND campaign I created for my friends, the problem being: the experience system. I have the game set up so that my friends can level-up through training or stopping enemies from continuing their villainous plots. With that being said, I shall begin.
So idea #1 was to refine the power system so they can do more damage. Idea #2 was to make more quick/easy missions to do. Idea #3 was to make more enemies to beat up resulting in more exp. Idea #4 was to make missions give more experience. Idea #4 was to increase the amount of experience dropped by enemies. Idea #5 was to refine the superpower system so that superpowers are even better than they already were. Idea #6 was to add new ways to train to get more experience. Idea #7 was to add a new system for martial arts so that I could add combos. Idea #8 was to add raid bosses that give a ton experience and awards. Idea #9 was to create teachers that you can train with to get a ton of experience. My final idea was to add more missions for them to do.
This exercise was quite the mental workout but it was very fun nonetheless. In fact, I might end up using most of the ideas I thought of in this exercise. I definitely should use this exercise in the future. I think its safe to say my creative thinking has speed up.
